I am excited to have hosted my very first UK sewing retreat in the heart of Somerset! The retreat took place over 4 nights in March 2024 and it was a chance for everyone to truly get away from it all, have extended time to sew, learn new sewing and quilting techniques, eat delicious food, make new friends and explore the local countryside.

Our accommodation is the beautiful Otterhead House, which comprises 5 bedrooms, a large kitchen, dining room, and cinema room.

Its interiors are super stylish and there’s no shortage of rustic charm with huge timbers, a big fireplace in the sitting room and quirky elm window sills. Outside there’s a big terrace and banquet style table for outdoor dining, a hot tub, barrel sauna, and a garden that slopes softly down to a babbling brook and wild flower meadow.

All meals will be provided, from cooked and continental breakfasts, afternoon tea on arrival, lunch, mid and afternoon snacks, and dinner. I am using a local caterer, who uses local produce and will ensure all dietary requirements are met.

The retreat is about relaxing and enjoying the time as you wish; whether that be watching my daily sewing demos, working on your own projects by machine or by hand. There will be a chance to experiment with new techniques, and a short requirements list will be sent to you nearer the time, should you wish to make some samples. We will be looking at different walking foot quilting samples on the first two mornings.

On the third morning we will be slowing things down and experimenting with the Japanese art of Boro stitching by hand.

Don't forget to bring along your WIPs, as there will be plenty of opportunity to work on those throughout the week as well!

The evenings will comprise of dinner, followed by optional activities each night. One night I will share my new talk 'The True Story of the Rajah Quilt'.

Another night we will enjoy a movie in the cinema room, and the week will end with a sewing themed quiz. There is also the option to enjoy the hot tub and sauna at any time.

There will be a range of sleeping options, from single occupancy and en-suite, to shared rooms and bathroom.  Whatever you choose, you're sure to be comfortable in the beautiful bedrooms.

I can't wait to welcome you to Otterhead House, for a wonderful week of relaxation, sewing, fun and friendship.
