Fabric Stamp Tutorial

Fabric Stamp Tutorial

Calling all quilters!  I'm starting a new trend!

Festival of Quilts 2024 is fast approaching, so instead of handing out expensive badges (pins) or business cards with your Instagram handle on them, why not hand out fabric stamps!  How fun will it be to ask your newly acquainted quilter friend to choose a fabric stamp to keep, and they might even have one for you in return.  They are so easy to make, and a great way to enjoy stitching with the cute motifs, animals and prints that you have in your stash already!

Are you ready to make them with me?

You Will Need:

Prints/motifs that you can fussy cut

White fabric

EPP glue pen

Pinking sheers (optional- you could always opt for straight edges)

Usual sewing supplies – sewing machine, rotary cutter, mat, thread etc.

Let's get started!

Fussy cut all of your favourite animals, flowers, cute motifs, or whatever makes your heart sing! Leave about an 1/8” around the edge of each motif.

Using a fabric glue pen, apply a small amount of glue to the back of your motif fabric, and stick onto a white background that is roughly 1/4” larger all the way round than the motif fabric.

Use pinking sheers to zig/zag the edges.

Stitch 1/8” away from the edge all the way around the motif, to secure to the white background.

Using a pin, pull your thread ends to the back and tie off. Press.

Using a regular pen, write your Instagram handle or website on the back of the stamp.

Repeat and make as many stamps as you like!

Remember - They don't need to be perfect, there are no 'stamp quilt police!"  It's all about having fun with the fabrics that you've got, and sharing some of that fabric joy with others, while making new friends in the process.

So when you're at Festival of Quilts 2024, don't be shy, hand out your fabric stamps to everyone you meet.  You're sure to put a smile on their face!

What can you do with your stamps?  You could applique them onto a pillow, bag, tea towel or pencil case.  Just make sure to follow the maker of each stamp first, so you can stay in touch :-)

I'd love to see your fabric stamps.  Let's get the hashtag #FOQfabricstampswap trending on Instagram!
